There're 3 processes, consisting of 12 steps to write an academic essay. In this case, Im talking about an appropriate academic essay for IETLS or TOEFL test, which is considered to be a model around the world.
Process 1: Planning the essay
Step 1: Read the essay topic Read the topic carefully Step 2: Identify the task Define your task, focus on what examiner wants you to write about Step 3: Write your thesis statement Write your thesis statement about the topic Step 4: Make notes about your general ideas Draft your general ideas Step 5: Expand your notes to include specific details Draft a brainstorm for your general ideas with supporting details
Process 2: Writing the essay
Step 6: Write the topic sentence for each paragraph Write a clear topic sentence for each paragraph Step 7: Write the introduction Write an introduction for your essay. The introduction lets the reader know what your point of view is and how you plan to develop the essay Step 8: Write the body of the essay Write your body. The body should include 2-3 paragraph, each paragraph is about one of your general ideas. The topic sentence based on your general ideas. Feed your topic sentence with supporting ideas Step 9:Write the conclusion Write a conclusion to summarise your ideas about the topic. The conclusion must not include any new detail. However, you could give your solution or argument about the topic
Process 3: Revising the essay
Step 10: Check the content Check all your items you've written Is there a thesis statement? Is there a topic sentence for each paragraph? Are the supporting details for each paragraph? Is there a conclusion? Step 11: Check the clarity Are there run-on sentence or sentence fragments? Are there musplaced modifiers or dangling modifiers? Are there structures parallel? Are there transition words? Are the sentences and paragraphs cohesive? Step 12: Check the punctuation and spelling Are paragraph indented? Are there punctuation marks such as periods at the end of each sentence? Do all sentences begin with capital letters? Are the words spelled correctly?
Reasonable length for your essay: Your essay should be at least 250 words. A good essay is in range of 250 -300 words
